AIA Atlanta Tours Visits 1010 Midtown

ATLANTA - On Saturday, October 17, 2009, the AIA Atlanta Tours committee continues the 2009 tour season with a dramatic tour of a high-rise structure on the Peachtree corridor.  Reserve your place by clicking onAIAatlantaTours@gmail.com or through the AIA Atlanta calendar section of the AIA Atlanta website.  The lecture starts at 2 p.m., and tours run continuously from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Lecture and tour are free and open to the public.

1010 Midtown1010 Midtown is a 35-story, 639,000 square foot mixed use development featuring 443 high-rise condominiums and 38,000 square feet of retail and dining space. Here, form follows context, specifically, the prominent curve along this segment of Peachtree between 11th & 12th Streets. The mass of 1010 Midtown gracefully evolves out of, and reflects this bustling vehicular and pedestrian artery from the base of the building to its apex. The building creates a uniquely organic but formal gesture when viewed from the exterior, and a panoramic living environment when viewed from the interior. Moving away from doggedly rectilinear floor plates are an interesting approach resulting in more naturally set forms as opposed to less considerate footprints within the urban landscape. Come see how these formal strategies are reflected upon the design process, execution, and aesthetics.
